Using a medical device in the home can be a complicated and challenging experience, especially when the device is used on children. Medical lines, such as tubing from IV pumps, enteral feeding pumps, gravity sets, oxygen pumps, monitoring equipment, and even power cords, are common components on these devices. When these lines become trapped under or wrapped around a part of a person’s body, or when when they become twisted together, it is called medical line entanglement.

Moog recently created this simple infographic to help readers understand what medical line entanglement is and what the potential risk is to infants, children, or those deemed at high risk for medical line entanglement. The infographic also presents some ideas designed to encourage further discussion on medical line entanglement between caregivers, clinicians, and their staff.
